TEI Group awarded contract at Grand Concourse Branch Library
The New York Public Library’s Grand Concourse branch is slated to temporarily close on January 14, 2019 for 18 months foa a $4 million improvement project. The project -- funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio, the New York City Council, and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
The project, which is being managed by the New York City Department of Design and Construction, is scheduled to be completed in 2020.The renovation — which will ensure the 60-year-old library continues to serve the community now and in the future — is part of a historic amount of investment in neighborhood branches by The New York Public Library system: currently, about $600 million of capital work is planned for the Library’s branches.
The Library will be partnering with community organizations—such as local senior centers and family enrichment center Circle of Dreams—to continue branch programming in the neighborhood throughout the closure.
To support patrons during the temporary closure of Grand Concourse Library — which is open on Sundays — The New York Public Library is extending hours at the nearby Melrose branch (910 Morris Avenue, Bronx) to include Sundays from 1 to 5 PM beginning on Sunday, January 20. And patrons are also encouraged to use the nearby Tremont Library (1866 Washington Avenue, Bronx).
The Grand Concourse Library — located at 173rd Street between Morris and Selwyn Avenues — opened on August 12, 1959 and offers a wide range of collections in English and Spanish in addition to educational programs for all ages.
